The organization
Blind and Low Vision Services of North Georgia has been providing services to the visually impaired for more than 20 years. Founded in 1983 as Cobb Services for the Blind, the name was changed in 1988 to reflect the agency's expanding service area. The agency was founded by Sarah Sentell Scott, a Cobb County resident who at the age of 42, lost her vision and found few services to help her.

A private nonprofit organization under IRS guidelines, Blind and Low Vision Services is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for agencies serving the blind and visually impaired. The agency is a vendor for the Georgia Department of Labor - Vocational Services and for Georgia's Project Independence for the Older Blind and Visually Impaired.

Services are supported in part by funds from the United Way, the Drive for Sight program, various grants and private donations.
